History

The Goldsboro Junior Woman's Club was first organized as a Junior Department under the leadership of the Goldsboro Woman's Club in 1955. In 1958, the group elected to become a Junior Club. The club was organized and federated with the GFWC of North Carolina (GFWC-NC) and with the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) in 1960.

The club was organized for the purpose of promoting social, economic, intellectual, and spiritual growth among younger women of Goldsboro, thereby adding to the cultural and civic welfare of the community. These goals have been met with great success through activities, projects, and programs sponsored by the club.

The Goldsboro Junior Woman's Club has indeed been fortunate with the leadership of past presidents. Their vision has enabled our club to continue with the ideals first established by our charter members. Throughout the years, our main concern has been our involvement with the community and how we can make a difference. Children, older adults, the mentally retarded and our own families have benefited from our efforts.

An Infant Car Seat Loaner program was established in 1982 and ran successfully through 2000. Because of safety issues, we now give car seats to families in need as identified by local social workers. Another community improvement project established in 1960 is our Shoe Fund project. Due to community and statewide response, we have been able to provide thousands of children with a brand new pair of shoes so they may attend school.

The Goldsboro Junior Woman's Club is a true service organization. As diverse individuals, we come together with a single purpose - to give of ourselves to make life better for others in our community. That is why this club was founded and why it continues today.
